Read: Proverbs 1:1-2; James 1:5

Think: I love the saying that goes "The more I learn the less I seem to know..." Does that ring true to you? It definitely does to me! I struggle day in and day out hoping and praying I'm making good decisions, that my choices are the "right" ones, that I am operating in the best ways possible.

But until hearing this weekend's message at church, I have to admit I haven't often prayed simply for "wisdom". My prayers tend more to be calls in frustration or desperation as I seek help in the moment. As I thought through Pastor Ben's sermon, I wondered: If I change my heart and my prayer becomes "God give me wisdom" could I just maybe circumvent the whole process that leads to those desperate pleas?

As I look at it, when we have God's wisdom we can know what to do and how to do it.  This wise living then helps me to not just avoid things that are destructive, but it allows me to live in a way that leads to a life of purpose and blessing!  And there is great news! As far as I can see, God's wisdom is ours for the taking. James 1: 5 says: "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

King Solomon gained the wisdom that he had because of his relationship with God, and that his heart was set to ask for it and to receive it. The example is there for us too - We can become wise if we seek God, ask for and be available to the wisdom He gives. We even have it easier than Solomon, most of its written out for us in black and white if we'll just be wise enough to read! 

Do: Take the challenge and read a chapter of Proverbs each day this month. Just for today, we'll cover two chapters so we can finish on time! Read Proverbs Chapters 1 & 2.

Pray: Father, I come to ask You to give me Your wisdom so that I may live my life that is pleasing to you and is according to Your Word. Help me to hear You in the weeks ahead as I read the wise words of Proverbs, and help me to live them out each day. I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
