Daily Devotional: Monday, Jan 11
Speaker: Ben Sigman Theme: Spiritual Growth Weekend Music links on iTunes: Salvation is Hereby Hillsong United; Break my Heartby Mike Flathers; Cannonsby Phil Wickham; Healerby Kari Jobe. Read: Ephesians 4:11-16; 2 Peter 3:18 Think: When my kids were younger they always wanted to be measured. "How tall am I now?" was the question I heard over and over. Then it became a bit of a competition. They often would go back-to-back with their friends to see who was bigger. Seeing those inches add up reassured us that even though their diet consisted only of goldfish crackers and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches they were making progress! Though it can seem like kids grow up all of a sudden, we know it's actually a continual process. It's that way physically and it's that way spiritually. As followers of Christ the bible teaches we are to continue to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). We are no longer to be children, but to "growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church." (Ephesians 4:14-15). It's a good idea to measure our spiritual growth from time to time. As Pastor Ben talked to us about "resetting" our spiritual growth for 2010, it makes sense to look at where we've been and where we are today so we can (hopefully) see the progress in our walk with Christ. Ephesians 4 gives us a great marker by which to measure: Am I more like Jesus today than I was yesterday/last month/a year ago? If your answer leaves you wanting, Pastor Ben shared some great ways to "energize" our spiritual growth. Let's do what it takes so our spiritual growth will be off the charts! Do: Have you measured yourself lately - Not physically but spiritually? In what ways are you becoming more like Jesus? Pray: God, I want the people I interact with everyday to see more and more of you in me... Help me to become more like you. As I set out in a new year Father, show me what changes I need to make to grow, and to fully live for you. In Jesus' name, Amen. The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church. |
