Theme: Jealousy
Weekend Music links on iTunes: Salvation Is Here, No Not One, None But Jesus
Read: Acts 17:25, Matthew 6: 25-26, Matthew 6:33, Philippians 4:12 and 19, 1 Timothy 6:6-8, Hebrews 13:5
Think: Pastor Ben taught us this past weekend, and I know we all have personal experience of the fact, that jealousy is very destructive. It’s destructive to our peace, joy, priorities, time, relationships and energy. In several places, the Bible tells us that God promises to provide everything we need (Acts 17:25, Matthew 6: 25-26, Matthew 6:33, Philippians 4:19). So, if we believe He provides everything we need, what gets us in trouble with jealousy? I think my problem has been the expectation that He will also provide everything I want.
What do I need? Air, water, food, shelter, clothing, safety, love. I have always had or been able to find these things, thank you Lord. The thing I have to be careful about, is assessing what I think I need – more prestige, more power, more possessions?
The epistles teach us a great lesson in Philippians 4:12 and 19, 1 Timothy 6:6-8 and Hebrews 13:5, be content. In that lesson we can find our peace, joy, right priorities, quality time, great relationships and all the energy we need.
Do: Sit down and check your level of contentment with your job, your home, your relationships.
Pray: Father, thank you for your promise to provide everything I need. Help me to find contentment in all these things. Amen
The eDevotional is written each week by a team of volunteers from Timberlake Church.
