Tuesday | Be yourself, everyone else is taken
Daily Devotional: Tuesday, April 20Speaker: Paul Diaz Theme: Make Your Work Worth It Weekend Music links on iTunes: Break My Heart by Mike Flathers; Yesterday, Today and Forever by Vicky Beeching; Your Name by Paul Baloche; Rescue by Desperation Band. Read: Psalm 37: 4, Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 Think: How often do we ask children ’What do you want to be when you grow up?’ From an early age we all dream of being different things. From a very young age I wanted a particular job, as I grew older it seemed unlikely but then in the end I trained and achieved my desired career. Ask any child and you will get answers like fire fighter, train driver, racing car driver, ballerina, princess etc. but as we get older we learn more about ourselves and the heart God has given us. There is a phrase often said in self help books and chat shows… ‘Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.’ As God made each of us unique and has a purpose for each of us then our hearts must also be unique. As we draw closer to God we learn more not only about Him but about ourselves and our dreams. God wants us to enjoy our work in the same way He enjoyed creating the world and still enjoys working in our lives. Perhaps we are not working in our dream job right now but through effort and prayer we can discover more about the plan God has for us and our working life and perhaps begin to find joy in the job we are in. Sometimes that plan may be to learn to enjoy where we are or it may be for change in the future but either way we can be sure God wants us to enjoy it, (1Thessalonians 5: 16-18) to be joyful always.
Pray: Loving Father; Thank you that you want us to enjoy our jobs which take so much of our daily lives. Please help each of us find things to enjoy about work and reach for the dreams of our hearts in our work lives within Your will. May we support and encourage each other and the next generation in finding jobs that help us to be joyful and appreciating them when we have them.
