Empty Chair Service
This heartfelt gathering is for those facing the difficult reality that a loved one won't be with them this holiday season. The Empty Chair Service provides a compassionate and supportive space where we can acknowledge the profound losses in our lives due to death, divorce, estrangement or other circumstances — and seek the heart-healing that only God can bring.
Please RSVP if you'd like to upload a photo(s) for the video tribute that will be shown as part of the Empty Chair Service and/or to register for free childcare for kids from birth - 5th grade.
FAQ
• Is this like a memorial service or Sunday morning church service?
It may feel like a little of both. Hopeful and positive like Sunday morning. Honoring, empathetic, and bit more contemplative like a memorial service. The Empty Chair Service strikes a balance — it’s truly its own thing.
• What will the service be like?
Reflective and uplifting with heart-stirring music and a brief, honest, and encouraging message of hope. While we hold space for grief, we also offer comfort and the biblical reminder that God is near to the brokenhearted and invites us to come closer.
• Will it be emotional?
Everyone grieves differently, but many find the Empty Chair Service both heartfelt and inspiring. That said, we’ll also have plenty of tissues available.
• Will there be a candle-lighting?
Everyone who attends will be invited to acknowledge their love and loss by placing a lit candle on the front of the auditorium stage.
• What should I wear?
Whatever feels comfortable and appropriate to you. Most people choose something between casual and business-casual. There is no dress code.
• May I attend even if my loss happened years ago?
Yes. Grief and healing have no timeline. Whether your loss is recent or from years past, you will be warmly welcomed.
• Is this gathering only for those who are grieving a death?
This service is for anyone experiencing loss due to death, divorce, separation, estrangement, addiction, incarceration, or any circumstance that leaves an “empty chair” during the holidays.
• Am I required to RSVP to attend?
It’s completely OPTIONAL to RSVP. You may simply show up a little before 7:00pm. If you’d like to share photos for the tribute video, please RSVP to upload them.
• Can I bring guests?
Absolutely — please bring anyone who may find the evening helpful, comforting, and/or healing. We have plenty of room.
• What if I come alone?
Many people do, and you will not feel out of place. Timberlake Church volunteers and staff will be present to ensure everyone feels welcomed and supported.
• Will there be prayer or communion?
Members of our pastoral team will be praying and sharing during the Empty Chair Service, but we won’t be serving communion.
• Is this service appropriate for children or teens?
While this service is a bit quieter and more contemplative than Sunday mornings, children and teens are welcome. Younger children may be more comfortable in childcare — provided at no cost for kids from birth - 5th grade. Please RSVP to register for childcare.
• Will there be coffee, tea, or snacks?
We love to welcome everyone who attends a Timberlake Church service with beverages (coffee, tea, water) and snacks. We’ll have it all set out before you arrive.

When you sign up to be baptized, someone from our team will reach out to you with everything you need to know for the day. When you arrive at church, you’ll check in and receive a free baptism T-shirt and a few helpful items.
Before the service, you’ll have time to change and meet with a pastor who will walk you through exactly what to expect. During the service, you’ll step into the baptism pool with volunteers who will guide you through the entire experience. Our team will be there every step of the way to make sure you feel comfortable and ready.

It illustrates your new life as a Christian.
Being baptized doesn't make you a believer in Jesus — it shows that you already believe. Being baptized doesn’t save you — only your faith in Jesus does that. Think of baptism as you would a wedding ring — it’s an external, symbolic representation of a commitment you’ve made in your heart.
"When someone becomes a Christian, they become a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
"By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead... so also we may live a new life!" Romans 6:4
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith... it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8,9
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water." Matthew 3:16

The word baptize comes from the Greek word baptizo — which means to immerse or dip underwater.
This is why we baptize this way at Timberlake Church.

There’s no need to wait — as soon as you receive Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized. If you wait until you feel worthy or good enough, you’ll never be baptized. That’s why it’s best to do it as soon as possible — but again, it’s never too late — and also why Timberlake Church offer multiple opportunities every year for Jesus-followers to be baptized.

"Simon himself believed and was baptized..." Acts 8:13
"But when they believed Philip as he preached the Good News... and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women." Acts 8:12
At Timberlake Church, we wait until children are old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them. This is typically age 11 and above, though it really depends on the child and their spiritual maturity. We’re always happy to speak with younger children to help determine if they’re ready to be baptized. More information on “Timberlake Kids” baptism is below.
• After you’ve answered (YES!), you’ll briefly be lowered so the water just covers you (that’s immersion). You’re then raised back up. This is why it’s often said, in baptism, we’re “buried with Christ and raised to walk in new life.”
• After this very quick process, a photo is taken of you and the baptizer(s) while you’re still in the baptistry.
• You’ll then step out of the water, dry off, and watch others be baptized.
• You’ll also receive a commemorative baptism certificate and a link to download photos of your baptism. Video is also recorded and posted to our website.
We’ll walk everyone being baptized through the entire process just before the actual baptism service, so not to worry! It’s simple and every question will be answered.
